Why '1942'?
We answer THREE QUESTIONS on the oddball 'initial ask' on our current campaign
Hey all! We wanted to send out a quick update on where we stand on the MISFITZ CLUBHOUSE: All The Shenanigans So Far campaign, but just as we were about to do so, the BULLY BOYS (aka Fritz Rhubarb, Melvin X. Melvin, and Johnnie Buttons) interrupted, like they always do!
Their big point of contention is our ‘initial ask’ on Kickstarter of $1942.
(Sidenote: For those unfamiliar, the ‘initial ask’ or GOAL on Kickstarter is the ‘minimum number needed’ for the platform to consider your project ‘funded’. Kickstarter is an ‘all or nothing’ platform, meaning if you don’t get to that ‘initial ask’ you get nothing, zero, zilch, nada.)
So back to the matter at hand - The Bully Boys are trying to figure out the DEEPER MEANING to the number - is it a code? Is there a personal meaning to it?
Peeling back the (disgusting) onion peel just a little reveals that the number is… completely random. That’s right. Steph and I had many discussions about where our initial ask number would land. We had many reasons why we didn’t want to go over $2000, but we never settled on a real amount. So when setting up the campaign, I put in $1942, and it stayed. Maybe I was reminiscing about the classic 1980’s arcade game by the same name (ever played it? It was great!) , maybe it was just randomly what my fingers clicked. Either way, sorry to disappoint the Bully Boys, but there’s no deeper meaning.
WHY IS THIS NUMBER SO MUCH LOWER THAN YOUR ‘INITIAL ASKS’ ON OTHER CAMPAIGNS?
There are a lot of reasons for that. Many center around the fact that books of this type normal trend in a ‘harder than average to fund’ area on Kickstarter, and we didn’t want to take any chances there. We believe in the project, in Meeky, Ferry, Slothie, and Stig, and we want this in YOUR hands badly, hence why we went conservative to ENSURE the project makes initial funding.
SO IS YOUR ‘INITIAL ASK’ ALL YOU NEED FOR THIS BOOK?
Absolutely not. Books like this aren’t cheap, and we have MANY stretch goals ready once we cross that minimum funding number (SIDENOTE: A stretch goal is a goal above the initial ask, where fun benefits get added, some sweeten the pot for current backers, others unlock new items and tiers, that can be added onto your current pledge, etc…) We hope that this will keep the campaign fun and engaging throughout its duration.
SO WHERE IS THE ‘MISFITZ CLUBHOUSE: ALL THE SHENANIGANS SO FAR’ CAMPAIGN CURRENTLY AT?
After a solid start to the weekend, we now sit at just $253 away from that MINIMUM FUNDING initial ask. As soon as we get there, we’ll be announcing the first of the stretch goals!
