PORTAL INTO THE PAST: We SPIRAL INTO MADNESS with I AM QIDO
Today we talk about our Far East fantasy horror title I AM QIDO and the origins of its theme song
Less than 48 hours from now we’ll debut the lyric video for HEIRS OF ISILDUR: SUPERNATURAL SABBATICAL (Friday the 13th of September 2024 at 1230PM EST) CLICK HERE TO BOOKMARK THE VIDEO PREMIERE. Today we’ll do our fifth video retro leading up to the premiere, and the first that was created specifically for one of our spinoff titles: I AM QIDO’s ‘SPIRAL INTO MADNESS’. This ‘look’ isn’t too far into the past, as the song was released in Q3 of 2023, and its graphic novel accompaniment was released earlier this year.
I AM QIDO explores the life of QIDO ASKETOYO, in his time before being called through a portal, and into the HEIRS OF ISILDUR / Shadow’s Haven universe.
SPIRAL INTO MADNESS was written to help unveil portions of I AM QIDO’s first act. In it we are introduced to QIDO, the younger twin brother of KENJXI, alongside their friends TATSUMI and MIYU. We see how a decision, with intentions of trying to do right by family and bloodline, can be misinterpreted and its consequences can spiral out of control.
The song itself talks about the landscape and hidden nature of the YAMARAN EMPIRE:
Elemental forces of nature combine
The orchids and mountains, our Empire’s disguise
Our oceans protected by Serpents of the Sea
Our perfect utopia, cloaked in tranquility
It then proceeds from QIDO’s point of view, after an inciting incident paints a picture of him that he believes is inaccurate.
The second verse specifically addresses this:
I’m no betrayer, to my bloodline I show reverence
It was not my hand that disturbed fate’s compass
I never asked for this, how could I comprehend
that my act of kindness, could spiral into such madness
The video is the first full lyric video completely created by #TeamINSYM’s Matt.
FAST FACT #1: I AM QIDO was originally only intended to be a 10-12 page character back story, to be included with the HEIRS OF ISILDUR: THE PERILOUS PROSPECTS trade / final edition. As we started to create the story, it was clear there was a lot more ‘meat on that bone’, and that a story of that size would not do what we were constructing justice. Next thing you know it’s a full-on one-shot telling the trials and travails of the QIDO ASKETOYO, his FRIENDS and FAMILY, the YAMARAN EMPIRE, the DARK KONQUESTORS, and the SOUL RIPPERS.
FAST FACT #2: The original version of the video had a very small mix issue in the song, which meant, after 6 months online, it had to be pulled down and a fixed version uploaded. All the original views and comments were lost with this.
FAST FACT #3: In the marketing for I AM QIDO, we asserted that this one shot would be the completion of QIDO’s story in the YAMARAN EMPIRE (as his story continues in HEIRS OF ISILDUR: THE PERILOUS PROSPECTS). We did NOT say, however, that this would be the end of any exploration in this part of our extended universe. MORE TO COME…
SPIRAL INTO MADNESS is only available as an MP3 and music video. There is currently no PHYSICAL media available for it… HOWEVER, that is an 80 page one shot graphic novel that’s available, with SIX collectible covers from our WEBSTORE!
