Campaign Update: Closing IN on the minimum!
As we start the new week, we give you an update on where the HEIRS OF ISILDUR campaign stands plus share some psychology behind how we approach the process, and cover one FOCUS ITEM from the campaign.
The big game is now behind us, a new week is ahead of us, and it’s time to get back to business. Today we’re gonna provide you with a quick update on the crowdfunding campaign for HEIRS OF ISILDUR: The Perilous Prospects Book THREE (click on the name to see the campaign), what the current path is in front of us, as well as an inside look at our thought process! We also cover one SPOTLIGHT ITEM: SHIRTS that are available in this campaign.
WE’RE LESS THE $900 FROM MINIMUM FUNDING!
After a weekend full of activity, we find ourselves now just $893 away from the MINIMUM FUNDING level. So what does that mean? Kickstarter is considered an ‘all or nothing’ platform, meaning - if you don’t reach that ‘minimum number’, you get nothing. So at this point, if the campaign ended today, it would be considered unsuccessful, and we would get $0 for this project. This is part of the reasons KS doesn’t charge anyone until the end of the campaign (along with allowing backers to add items onto their pledge as the campaign moves forward).
Setting that minimum funding number is always tricky. Set it too high, and people will look at your campaign, say ‘that’s an unattainable number’, and pass you by. Set the number too low, and you could again be questioned (“If that’s all they need, they really don’t need me”, etc…)
To be completely honest and transparent, we always need FAR more than what that minimum number is to break even on a campaign. Art page creation, printing, shipping, campaign fees, creation of the additional items, all add up to FAR more than that minimum number... but we have to start somewhere.
We try to set the minimum number at something realistically attainable early on, a checkpoint along the way in the campaign, so that we can then add fun perks into the campaign, called Stretch Goals.
WHAT IS A ‘STRETCH GOAL’?
These are new checkpoints that could be of benefit to the current backers (not ONLY do you get what’s in the tier, but also an additional item), or it could be an unlocked add-on tier or item that could be purchased (the rub here is that we would not even consider making them without attaining the stretch goal checkpoint).
Our intention is to set that minimum funding level at a number that we can obtain early enough on in the campaign that we can have fun giving back to you for a good portion of the campaign. Does it always work out that way? Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. But this at least explains a little part of our process when putting these things together.
We also like to set DOLLAR AMOUNT and BACKER COUNT NUMBER stretch goals. In doing this we are showing that while we NEED the dollars the fund the project, we care about each and every individual backing a project, because in the ultimate end, YOUR eyes on OUR stories is what truly matters!
FOCUS ITEM: SHIRTS
We’re big on wearables and in this campaign we are debuting TWO NEW SHIRTS, as well as some others that recently have been offered. You can even select a tier that is JUST ALL shirts (plus a digital or physical copy of the issue). This time around we’re offering brand new LOGO SHIRTS for HEIRS OF ISILDUR and I AM QIDO. We also have included three SYMBOL shirts (the GLOW IN THE DARK Soul Ripper, and Dual Serpents shirts from I AM QIDO, plus the 13 O’Clock HEIRS OF ISILDUR shirt). Pair these along with the SOCKS in the campaign and you’ll have an outfit that everyone at the local grocery store will be envious of! :-)
These are also all available as add-ons to any physical tier. So mix and match as you please!
